Cardiac surgeon

Pr. Fabien Doguet

Cardiac surgeon · Hôpital Privé Jacques Cartier, Massy

Minimally invasive cardiac surgery

A cardiac surgeon at Hôpital Privé Jacques Cartier in Massy since November 2021, Pr Fabien Doguet was previously a University Professor and Hospital Practitioner, and head of the cardiac surgery department at CHU Rouen. He trained in Normandy, where he specialised in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, one of the most technical and demanding disciplines in modern medicine.

He rose steadily through the hospital ranks to become head of department at CHU Rouen. In that role he led a multidisciplinary team medically, and also oversaw the training of residents and junior practitioners. Alongside this he carried out clinical research and contributed to the evolution of cardiac surgical practice through scientific publications and national and international conferences.

That commitment to passing on knowledge took him beyond the hospital walls. For several years he was a co-host on Magazine de la Santé on France 5, championing a medicine that is understandable, open and in everyone's service.

The author of a book on returning to sport after 40, he is a firm advocate of physical activity as a way to age well.

Outside his professional career he is a seasoned amateur athlete: running (more than 20 marathons), trail and ultra-trail (Diagonale des Fous, UTMB, Marathon des Sables…), and triathlon (Ironman). Sport is not merely a hobby for him but a school of life, a source of clarity, consistency and resilience.

He also serves as a doctor on extreme races, and was medical director of the most recent 40th Marathon des Sables Legendary.

He now practises at Hôpital Privé Jacques Cartier in Massy, where he has developed an expertise in minimally invasive cardiac surgery (mitral and aortic). He also treats coronary disease (all-arterial bypass grafting) as well as surgery of the aorta and the aortic root (with or without valve preservation).
